Ness LegalTech Legal Technology Built on Advanced AI

Ness develops and deploys legal technology products using the most advanced AI techniques and systems, built by trial lawyers for the work of litigation, and always under the direction of a Ness lawyer.

Human judgment, artificial intelligence

Ness LegalTech is the technology side of the firm: the AI tools, systems and assistants we build and deploy in our own practice. The robot holding the scales is its mark. The Ness figure remains the mark of the firm’s legal services.

Firm-built AI legal tools

We design, build and deploy our own legal technology, drawing on current AI models, techniques and systems. Our tools are made for the day-to-day work of a trial practice: working through large volumes of documents and records, organizing the facts of a case, supporting legal research and analysis, preparing first drafts, and getting ready for depositions, hearings and trial. Because they are built by the lawyers who use them, they are shaped around how cases are actually litigated.

Ben, the firm’s AI assistant

Ben is the AI assistant that supports Ness lawyers. Ben helps with research, drafting, document organization, correspondence and scheduling so that our attorneys can spend more of their time on strategy and advocacy. Ben works at the direction of the firm’s lawyers and identifies itself as an AI assistant when it communicates on the firm’s behalf.

Lawyers stay in charge

Technology supports our lawyers. It does not replace their judgment. A Ness lawyer directs every matter, decides what work is done and how, and is responsible for the advice we give and for everything we file or send. AI-assisted work is reviewed by an attorney before it is relied on, and our technology does not give legal advice.

Confidentiality and security

Protecting client confidences comes first. We choose and configure the systems we use with attention to confidentiality, access controls and data handling, and we use client information only for the client’s matter, consistent with our professional obligations as lawyers.

What it means for clients

Our goal is faster turnaround, a closer command of the record, and more senior-lawyer attention on the questions that decide a case, at rates well below those of the national firms. Technology does not decide cases and we do not promise any particular outcome; what it changes is how thoroughly and efficiently our lawyers can prepare.
